Nov. 20, 2009 (China Knowledge) - China has become the second-largest market in the world for Dell Inc, and the firm is looking for a bright future in this market, said Amit Midha, president of Dell Greater China, sources reported.
China is a very important market for Dell, and the business operations in this market maintain strong growth, added Midha.
The stimulus package launched by the Chinese government boosted the market's growth as well as consumption. Growing investment and demand for integrated technology have also positively impacted Dell's business performance in the market, noted Midha.
Dell's shipment growth in China was three times more than the average growth of its counterparts in the country last year, especially in server, data center and storage business.
The Chinese market will become the largest PC market globally in 2015, estimates the PC maker.
The firm's net income for the third quarter of this year was US$337 million, down 54% year on year.

Mar. 27, 2009 (China Knowledge) - The Hong Kong Tourism Commission will invest HK$50 million to improve local resorts, said Yvonne Choi, Hong Kong's Permanent Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, on Tuesday, the official Xinhua News reported.
Choi spoke about the budget for the new fiscal year at the Legislative Council of the Hong Kong SAR government and mentioned the tourist resort improvement plan, which includes building a scenic square and related facilities at Lantau Ngong Ping 360, rebuilding the pedestrian bridge east of Tsim Sha Tsui and improving visitor guide signs in Hong Kong.
The 1.52-hectare scenic square will be completed at the beginning of 2010. A plan concerning improvement of signs for visitors will be implemented later this year and will be finished by 2010.
Meanwhile, Ocean Park Hong Kong is also expanding its tourism resorts to attract more visitors amid the global economic slowdown.

SHANGHAI/HONG KONG, Sept 21 - An investment arm of Goldman Sachs Group is in talks with China's biggest privately-owned car maker Geely Automotive to buy about $250 million of the company's convertible bonds, two sources said.
Geely, whose parent is eyeing Ford's Swedish car brand Volvo, aimed to use the proceeds to boost its carmaking capacity, a source close to the Chinese car maker told Reuters on Monday.
Geely plans to use the proceeds to add new car and parts plants and to buy auto-related assets from its parent, Geely Holding Group Co, said the source.
Geely and Goldman officials declined to comment.
